Graphic Novel about Hannie, Truus and Freddie: The Sirens of Haarlem

A Brazilian graphic novel about women in the Haarlem resistance: It may sound surprising, but it is precisely this international perspective that makes The Sirens of Haarlem such a special project. In 2024, the Brazilian author duo Felipe Pan and Giovanna Guimarães published *As sereias de Haarlem* in Brazil, a graphic novel about resistance heroines Hannie Schaft and the sisters Truus Oversteegen and Freddie Oversteegen.

It is remarkable that this moving story from Dutch history is now reaching an international audience. A Dutch translation was therefore inevitable. The presentation of this edition took place during the Haarlem Comic Festival at the end of May 2026, a fitting venue for the launch. The festival was held in the historic Koepelgevangenis in Haarlem, the place where Hannie Schaft was imprisoned for some time following her arrest.

In *The Sirens of Haarlem*, the story of Hannie Schaft, Truus and Freddie Oversteegen is given a powerful and contemporary new form. The graphic novel shows how their courage, ideals and struggle for freedom continue to inspire us today. To mark the Haarlem Comic Book Festival, an exclusive Haarlem edition of the book is also being published, featuring a special dust jacket and an exclusive print.
