Commemorate Hannie Schaft
Last sunday in november
Woman in the resistance, Hannie Schaft, is commemorated annually on the last weekend of November in Haarlem.
This year, it’s on Sunday, November 30th, in the Grote or St. Bavokerk. This is a special edition to commemorate 80 years of freedom.
Hannie Schaft is commemorated every year with a wreath laying ceremony at the Eerebegraafplaats Overveen, a commemoration ceremony with speakers and music, followed by a silent walk that ends with a wreath laying ceremony at the monument Woman in the Resistance in the Kenaupark.

National Hannie Schaft commemorations
At the bottom of this page you will find links to photos of the commemorations, including the special commemoration in 2015, which marked the 70th anniversary of Hannie Schaft’s reburial. The anniversary booklet ‘70 year Hannie Schaft Commemoration‘, with interviews that bridge the gap between the past and the present, is available for purchase in the online store.
Hannie Schaftreading
A fixed and highly valued part of the Remembrance is the Hannie Schaftreading. At the invitation of the Foundation, a prominent Dutch person will share how he or she views Hannie Schaft’s story as relevant today. The lectures are well worth attending. De tekst van eerdere lezingen is daarom integraal op deze website te lezen.
