Cell 55 – Hannie Schaft, a woman in the resistance
In this cell, close to the spot where resistance fighter Hannie Schaft (1920–1945) was imprisoned during the Second World War, her story is brought to life once again. This room depicts her final days, her role in the resistance, her courage and her death.
At the very spot where Hannie Schaft spent hours in fear, a space for reflection and awareness is now taking shape. Through images, sound and the design of the space, visitors are invited to reflect on her story and on the question: how much like Hannie are you?
The more than 400,000 visitors who visit the Koepel each year can get to know her here and be inspired by Hannie as an icon of the resistance.

ANIMATION WALL - We need your help
The space also features an exhibition wall. In future, artists will be able to display (digital) works here, inspired by the ideas of Hannie Schaft. Your contribution is essential to make this animation in the KoepelCel financially possible.
With your donation (of at least €50), you are helping to fund the refurbishment of the Cel in the Haarlem Dome and to ensure that Hannie Schaft continues to be a source of inspiration for current and future generations.

Redesign - Behind the scenes
Christel Bouwmeester (visual artist), Liesbeth Rood (theatre maker) and Charlotte Schot (art director) created this spatial installation on behalf of the National Hannie Schaft Foundation, together with many other volunteers.
Redesign - Thanks to our partners
The redesign was made possible financially by the Municipality of Haarlem, the Cultuurkoepel Foundation, Jeroen Pliester bequest (former chair of the National Hannie Schaft Foundation) and the Haarlem school Het Schoter, Hannie Schaft’s former secondary school.
